Adopting a pet is quick and easy!

January 21, 2009

The Mineola Animal Shelter tries to find homes for stray animals, dogs and cats mostly. All dogs and cats are kept for three days to allow the owners time to locate them. On the fourth day, the animal becomes the property of the City of Mineola and may be put up for adoption.

The actual adoption process is quick and easy. You must be 18 years or older and have a valid drivers license.  You simply fill out a contract agreeing to have the animal spayed or neutered and vaccinated annually to protect against the rabies virus, which is state law.

APET has a low cost spay, neuter and vaccination program that you are encouraged to use. However, you may also use a local veterinarian.
